The *not so secret*-secret to avoiding a holiday hangover with hydration

The holiday season is upon us once again and you’ve likely accepted invitations to more events than your wallet or sanity can handle. But the company will be great and the alcohol will be flowing— making us all a little more likely to drink beyond our usual limits. The secret to avoiding a holiday hangover? Hydration between Libations. This is the key to making it through a season of excess feeling your best.

Fact: Alcohol is a diuretic, basically a substance that depletes you of fluids—fast [“Don’t break the seal,” they said]. This rapid dehydration not only wreaks havoc on your insides and exaggerates the loathsome symptoms of a hangover, but it also depletes your body of crucial electrolytes.

Electrolytes are those ions that carry the energy necessary for many bodily functions. Optimal performance requires a consistent and adequate supply of these key nutrients. Flow has you covered.

  1. Pregame with water — Swap those sugary chasers. Think strawberry + rose or watermelon + lime on the rocks—no sugar, no juice, no calories. Pair this with some hydrating fruits and veggies and you’re gold. (Don’t forget to leave some for later.)
  2. Double-fisting…with H20 — Let’s invoke the 50/50 rule here. One glass of water for every drink. Alternating between alcohol and water will minimize those early symptoms of dizziness, nausea, and dry mouth. Electrolytes are key because they help your body to retain water and pee less frequently, thus allowing you to hydrate faster. Sip and keep dancing!
  3. The nightcap — Remember those extras we told you to keep for later? This is your failsafe. We’re not promising a hangover cure, just the ability to be able to function your best the next day. The minerals and electrolytes in Flow will help restore your body’s hydration while you sleep.

Hydration Hack: water before bed should be practiced regularly for beautiful, hydrated skin from the inside out.

Happy Hydrated Holidays. xx
